FAQ — Handpan & Tongue Drum

Before Purchase
What is the difference between a Handpan and a Tongue Drum? +
The Handpan is hand-hammered: stronger projection, rich in overtones, can be played with the fingers.
The Tongue Drum (with cut slots) offers a gentle sound, very accessible, playable with fingers or mallets – ideal for relaxation and beginners.
Nitrated steel or stainless steel: What should I choose? +
Nitrated: clear response, good stability, darker appearance. Requires light care to prevent oxidation.
Stainless steel: more resistant to corrosion, longer reverberation time, often brighter sound. Ideal for humid environments / by the sea.
How do I choose the scale (key) of my Handpan? +
Choose based on desired mood and ear. Dorian, Celtic, Kurd are versatile and harmonize well together.
If you play with other instruments, choose Re/minor or C/major.
We can advise you via video or audio files on the Contact page.
How many notes do I need (8, 9, 10+)? +
8–9 notes: ideal for beginners and zen improvisation.
10–12+: more melodic possibilities but requires more precision. Start simple and expand later with another instrument or a mutant.
Is the Tongue Drum suitable for children/meditation? +
Yes! The pentatonic arrangement avoids “wrong notes”. Moderate volume, ideal for relaxation, yoga, and early musical development. 10–12 inch models are very accessible.
